Headstone
04:56
|
|||
Turned my car down a shaded road
intent to visit my baby's home
regretted leaving seven years ago cause
all I found was a headstone
I asked her mama when the end had come
she said right after I had gone
she only said that it was time to go and
then, she said, she made it so
so along the fields I drove
remembered smoking at drive in shows
sneaking in through her window her
laying there, breathing slow
we took pictures on the railroad track
went out dancing with boys in drag
I never said I wasn't coming back
I never said that I would go
Then one day I heard Tom Petty
thought I should go and see my baby
so I turned down the road that's shady
wondering if I'm too bold
with her departed from this life
darkness has overcome the light
so lay a headstone down as mine
cause it's time for me to go

Over bones, there rest the stones
that say the names of those who lay
under the bleaching sun
meant to bring comfort to all
the ones remaining as they lay their flowers down and
carry on their ways all of their days
here they lay their burdens down
here they wear their golden crowns
resting from their labors all their days
Now I walk under cathedrals of the fall
the golden leaves encircle the magic of it all
I walk over bones but never touch the stones
the leaves, they scatter like the
ashes of the ones who gathered
treasures that they stored up from their days

Breathe

Daylight after years of night
in the grey, Lazarus awakes
on this stone, written many names
I let time lay heavy at my feet
let fall memories I shouldered as a beast
waking form this sleep
just to breathe
here they come
sons of skeletons
what is done in secret will be known
as a red sky full of butterflies
I let time lay heavy at my feet
let fall memories I shouldered as a beast
waking form this sleep
just to breathe

Rocket Ship
04:11
|

Falling from a rocket ship
cause I tried to fly
didn't reach the orbit yet
not sure how it happened
but I'm stunned by how quiet it is
free falling from the sky
falling from a rocket ship
coming down hard and fast this time
Nothing is the way it way
when I thought that it was fine
all this disillusionment
that comes with all the changing times
I guess that I know better now
and go along for the ride
falling from a rocket ship
coming down hard and fast this time
falling from a rocket ship
coming down hard and fast this time
We were always told
to do anything we could
just work hard and dream but
now the winter's cold
and my face shows that I'm old
I'm not gonna scream
I woke up with my head again
needing depressurized
thinking about naming it
the aching that's behind my eyes
cause I drink my disappointment
to feel better for a time
falling from a rocket ship
coming down hard and fast this time
falling from a rocket ship
coming down and hard and fast this time
falling from a rocket ship
coming down hard and fast this time
